Horse-drawn carriages rides in Tatra National Park
On 30th and 31st of March and 2nd of April:
pick up straight from your hotel and taxi drive through Zakopane and Kościelisko to the entrance of Chocholowska Valley, the start point of the horse and carriage (sleigh ride in wither) ride in Tatra National Park. After one hour ride, there is a time for a short break for a tasty snack served in the mountain refuge (an apple pie and tea or coffee). The visit in the Chocholowska Valley ends with a lovely, fast (a little bit bumpy) ride down the valley, to the parking where the driver waits to take the guests back to the hotel. The end of March and the beginning of April is a time when the crocuses start to bloom in the Chocholowska Valley, on the Kalatowki clearing and in the many other places of our region…
Easter food blessing:
Saturday 30th of March – in all the churches every hour or even every 30 minutes.
Many people of Polish or other Eastern European descent make a basket of Easter foods to be blessed on Holy Saturday and take it to their parish priest. This custom is a very important part of a Holy Week rich in traditions passed on from one generation to the next. This basket was called Swieconka and usually has food symbolic of the Easter holiday. A Paschal Lamb, representing the Lamb of God, in Polish: baranek, can be made from cake, bread or butter and is often centerpiece of the food brought to the church. Eggs, both decorated and plain are a symbol of new life or rebirth. Meat, usually ham or sausage (kielbasa), Horseradish, bitter herbs that signify the bitterness of the suffering of Christ, and salt a Polish sign of hospitality are all found in this basket. Greenery, usually in the form of boxwood or branches of pussy willow represents the awakening of the earth. Bread is always in the basket, both a symbol of communion, the bread of the last supper and the traditional sweet breads or Babe. http://culture.polishsite.us
Easter Egg ski competition
Monday 2nd of April at 11.00 am on the Kalatowki Clearing (Tatra National Park), next to the Mountain Hotel Kalatowki.
It’s worth to walk there (30 minutes from Kuznice) to see the competitors wearing the old clothes, hundred years old boots made of leather and wooden skis and sticks. The atmosphere of the event is unforgettable and you will meet there the half of the inhabitants of Zakopane.
